Chamber Database
The Chamber Database
Welcome, and thanks for visiting the ICD Chamber Database! This database contains the solo and chamber works of composers from historically excluded groups whose profiles you can find in the linked Composer Database. Please consider the following as you search:
Use filters sparingly. The more filters you add, the smaller the list of works. If you select several filters, the greater the chances that you may not find any works that match your search.
Embrace the browse! Feel free to explore works and composers you may not be familiar with.
There is more to come. This is an evolving tool with new works added regularly. It is not an exhaustive list of all repertoire by all composers of historically excluded groups; it only includes those who have completed their profiles. If you are a composer who wants to be added, please submit a profile to us!
Don’t stop here! The ICD recommends that programming diverse voices not be done to satisfy an occasional checkbox but should be a long-term commitment to intentionally present these works in programs moving forward.
Please help us improve. If you have questions or notice an error in a record, please contact us. Also, report any broken links here.
SEARCH HELP
Sections include:
Ensemble Size (solo through 9+);
Instrumental Sections (these include individual instruments as well as related instrumental chamber ensembles);
General Information (including title, difficulty, musical era, and difficulty level);
Flexibility Information (including works with flexible instrumentation, flexible size, and open instrumentation);
Additional Information (including electronics, narration, video, theatre, dance, and additional instruments not listed in the Instrumental Sections above); and
Composer Information (this allows you to filter composers by numerous identity categories).
Filtering can be done in several ways:
For example, select “Solo” under Ensemble Size to find a work with only one performer.
To further specify, select the number of performers in an instrumental group (“Solo”, then “1” next to “# of Performers: Clarinets” to find a solo work for any clarinet).
To be even more specific, select the exact instrument(s) (“Solo”, then “1” next to “# of Performers: Clarinets”, then click the checkbox next to Bass Clarinet).
Click “Reset” in the lower left of the form to “zero out” the form after a search.
Click “Search Again” in the form's upper left to keep your previous search items.
Components such as electronics, narration, video, dance, and theatre/actors do not factor into the Ensemble Size (a work for viola and electronics would be found under “Solo”). These are all selected under the Additional Information section.
Once a list of works is revealed, click the Title for more information about the work (date, general notes, citation, links to score, audio, and/or video) and click the Work Link to go directly to an external page for the work itself.
